Marriott Luxury Educational Trip to Los Cabos!

Los Cabos is a magic land full of contrast, from breathtaking seas, to desert and mountains. Also known as “Land’s End” for being located at the tip of the southern Baja California Peninsula between Sea of Cortez and main land Mexico where the Pacific Ocean mixes with the Sea of Cortez.

Los Cabos offers the unparalleled natural beauty, biodiversity and range of amenities which appeal to any personality.

Jacques Cousteau once called Mexico’s Sea of Cortez ‘the world’s aquarium as it has an almost legendary status among divers and marine naturalists. The sea contains more than 900 types of fish, some that exist only in these waters and others that migrate here such as the leatherback sea turtles, Humboldt squid, manta rays and blue whales.

Los Cabos has 19 Blue Flag beaches to its name!  The Blue Flag is a special certification given to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

Los Cabos is comprised primarily of two towns, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas; which are linked by a 20-mile corridor lined with world-class resort properties and championship golf courses.

Cabo San Lucas is known for its water-based activities, nightlife and spectacular scenery. San José del Cabo is like the ‘mild’ sister of ‘wild’ Cabo San Lucas, offering quiet shopping, an attractive plaza, a beautiful church and excellent dining.

Our four-night stay was divided between two resort the JW Marriott  and Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort .

JW Marriott Los Cabos was a very nice surprise.  The oceanfront resort is located a short distance from San Jose del Cabo in gated community surrounded by private residences. The resort has endless panoramic views of Pacific Ocean. Though separated from the water by a 35-foot-tall dune, the resort creates an immediate connection from entry to ocean through a horizon-framing main arrival hall.

The resort is certainly large but with access to a 21,000-square foot spa, thirteen pools, a Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, and six restaurants and bars you do not feel cramped or short on privacy.

The hotel features 299 guest rooms and suites, but I recommend booking a room at the Griffin Club, a 45-room boutique hotel located within the resort. Rooms at Griffin club are pricier than a standard room but amenities and extra space more than make up for the higher rate.  The rooms feature a palette of beige and tan, and mix natural elements of wood, stone, and textiles. The bathrooms are spacious and have a deep soaking tub, walk-in shower, and luxurious Bvlgari White Tea toiletries. The Griffin has a large private pool, butler services, access to the club lounge where complimentary breakfast buffet is served every morning, snacks throughout the day, and a premium open bar every evening from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The hotel has many dining and drinking options but Niparaya JW Bar is a must to visit where the selection of tequilas and mezcals is endless. Another place not to be missed is Cafe Des Artistes, an exclusive restaurant where the Mexican flavors are blended with gourmet French techniques.

The 21,000-square foot Jasha Spa is just wonderful with pools, saunas, and steam rooms and access to a temazcal, a Mexican sweat lodge. The treatments focus on indigenous remedies and rituals.

After two night stay at the JW Marriott we have moved to The Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort.   The brand new resort  located midway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

The 128-room luxury resort overlooks the Sea of Cortez and is located on 34 acres. The resort reflects its Baja California location, both in its design and guest experience, as it celebrates the landscape and cultural marvels.

There is an impressive collection of art throughout the property. The resort’s indigenous gallery,  El Gabinete “Del Barco”, showcases regional artifacts such as a 43-foot-long whale skeleton and a historical map collection.

The resort is designed in contemporary Mexican style using indigenous woods and tones to provide a transformative immersion into the local environment, while their infinite pool meets the endless stretch of sand.

Guest accommodations are sophisticated and modern. Each guest room and suite features a private entrance and patio, contemporary furnishings, original art and Bluetooth technology.

The resort features five swimming pools including two 50-meter infinity pools. Tej Ojo de Liebre Spa 10,000 square foot luxury spa have  a full range of services like halotherapy (Himalayan salt igloo) massages, body wraps, Ayurvedic treatments, therapy baths, and Thalasso Therapy.

The Solaz offers four unique restaurants and lounges. The Mako located next to the beach is my favorite with  a trendy al fresco dining experience during the day serving salads, flat bread, ceviche and while  at night the Dinner Grill menu includes steak, local live lobsters and the sea’s freshest fish.

The highlight of visit to Los Cabos was visit to the thermal springs located in Sierra de la Laguna mountains. It is 45 minutes journey from Los Cabos where there are  natural thermal springs.  You could really feel that you are so far away from all the stress you could have. Visiting the spring  allows you to be immersed in an authentic off-road Baja California landscape during this once-in-a-lifetime journey exploring what feels like an undiscovered natural haven.  The peaceful sounds of water and birds are rivaled by the breathtaking views of the mountain canyons and waterfall.  Swimming in the natural ponds and warm earth-made Jacuzzi is unforgettable. We enjoyed this wonder with and organic picnic lunch and wine… This tour can’t be compared to any other!
