Dear Gentlemen,

In my many years of travel I have never written a letter like this but after an absolutely wonderful trip to Peru last month, I wanted to take the time to congratulate you on the excellent properties and service offered to me and my traveling companions by Belmond.

Following ten days in Ecuador, which included a week long cruise with Silverseas, I arrived in Lima and began a terrific week that included accommodations at Rio Sagrado, Sanctuary Lodge, and Palacio Nazarenas, as well as a memorable ride on The Hiram Bingham. Our trip was expertly arranged and planned by Nora Winsberg of Paul Klein Travel. Working with her was a pleasure and addressed every item on my wish list.

The trip was also helped immeasurably by our guide, Carlos Terrazas. He was personable, attentive, knowledgeable, and always one step ahead in planning for the needs of our party of four. Carlos is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had, as well as having a sharp administrative mind. Of all the private guides I’ve ever had (and I’ve had some truly wonderful ones, most notably with Cox & Kings), Carlos was the best. I know everyone in my group would agree with that.

I must also mention the absolutely beautiful hotels in which we stayed, as well as the superb quality of service. Having traveled extensively through North America and Europe, as well as to Egypt, China, and other foreign shores, I was not ready for the level of extravagance and comfort offered by your hotels and employees. Although I enjoy stand-alone hotels, both boutique and large, my fall back chain is the Four Seasons, where the concierge service has always been very strong. I hope you will take it as a compliment when I say that the welcome and attention I received at each Belmond property was certainly up to that standard.

As I say, there’s no reason for me to write to you, and in all my decades of travel I’ve never taken the time to compose a letter like this. However, since credit should be given where credit is due, let me end by again mentioning Carlos Terrazas’ superlative work, and thank you for a truly memorable vacation.
