In 1993, explora Patagonia became a symbol of the National Park Torres del Paine. Since then, its prize-winning architecture and siting –on the shore of Pehoé Lake and with one of the best panoramic views of the Macizo del Paine and the granite towers of the same name– has consolidated the snapshot of our hotel as one of the postcards that best identifies the reserve where it is located.
The explora Patagonia experience includes more than 40 explorations –by van, hiking or horseback riding– that take travelers to mountains, glaciers and lakes in the wonderful landscape surrounding us.
Horses –sheltered in explora’s own stable only 15 minutes away– are in our property and have been specially bred and trained by our team for travelers’ rides.
The barbeque area or Quincho, located 53 kilometers (34 miles) from the hotel, is the starting point of some of our horseback rides. This is also the place where the most typical gastronomic treats in Patagonia take place: spit-lamb. Its slow cooking is a good excuse to brew mate with the gauchos and to listen to interesting local stories. The results are well worth the wait.
To make this a worry-free experience for our travelers, all explora programs include explorations, transfers, meals and drinks.
explora Atacama, the second of our hotels, was inaugurated in 1998 and is located in an area formerly inhabited by an indigenous Atacameño community, the Ayllu of Larache. The hotel was designed as a base from where to explore the Andean Altiplano, one of the world’s most complex ecosystems. Its 50 rooms are the perfect place to relax after an excursion.
The more than 40 explorations offered in this destination –hiking, bike riding or horseback riding, including high mountain climbs and astronomic sessions– bring our travelers closer to the cultural and natural wealth of this fascinating area.
explora Atacama’s horses have been specially raised and trained for the desert’s climate, geography and altitude. The stables that shelter them are within our premises.
San Pedro de Atacama boasts some of the world’s clearest skies and is therefore one of the best places to practice astronomy. For that reason, in 2008 we inaugurated explora’s observatory, which has become one of the best private Chilean observatories.
The barbecue area is located at about 50 meters (164 feet) away from the hotel based, in the backyard of a traditional adobe house restored by explora. This is a meeting place for travelers around a traditional spit-lamb, barbecue and fish.
Another meeting place is Cúcuter, a large field surrounded by chañar trees in the middle of the desert, where we often meet for lunch after morning explorations.
explora’s Puritama National Reserve is located 45 minutes away from the hotel based. This 8,500 ha area has one of our most treasured places: the Puritama hot springs. Taking a dip in these waters–with a temperature of 32ºC (90°F) – after a morning exploration is a stimulating experience both for the body and for the spirit. Our travelers have the additional privilege of exclusively enjoying the first thermal fountain.
It is explora’s wish for our travelers to get the most out of all experiences; therefore, all our programs include explorations, transfers, meals and drinks.
explora Valle Sagrado -our latest hotel- lays on an old corn plantation established in one of the most retreated farms of the Sacred Valley, close to Cusco and Machu Picchu. It is sheltered and surrounded by mighty mountains that were once the home of the great Inca Empire. Its 50 rooms are the perfect place to relax overlooking the corn plantation or the mountains surrounding after an excursion.
This destination offers travelers over 20 exploration activities, either on foot or bicycle. Our guides take them to experience the area’s unique geography and Andean culture in all it richness. explora Valle Sagrado was designed as a base from where to explore nature and landscapes, archeology and history, and local culture.
Pumacahua House is an old colonial house located on one side of the hotel’s corn terraces. Rescued by our restoration and archeology team, it contains the hotel’s spa where our guests will be able to enjoy massages, heated swimming pool, hot tubs and saunas.
Given the region’s outstanding ancestral and cultural heritage, the commissioning and construction of the Valle Sagrado project was done in the most responsible way, working in close coordination with the Peruvian Archeology Institute.
Since we believe that it is important to leave all daily concerns behind, explora programs are all inclusive: explorations, food, beverage and transport.
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Easter Island is the remote destination par excellence. In explora Rapa Nui, the mysteries of the island and its dramatic isolation are visible everywhere. At 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Hanga Roa, our privileged location –from where to explore the enigmatic culture of this island– features extraordinary ocean views.
Its construction in year 2007 was granted a LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) based on its respect for the surroundings and optimized energy use.
The 30 rooms of explora Rapa Nui were designed to take maximum advantage of the silence and the hotel’s natural surroundings, ensuring rest after a long day of explorations.
In explora Rapa Nui we offer more than 20 explorations –hiking, biking or boat– at different levels. In general, all of them have strong cultural and archaeological features.
Our travelers should only be concerned with having a good time. All explorations, transfers, meals and bar are all included in the rate.
